Elementary education is very popular even if it does not pay as well as other disciplines do. Elementary school teachers understand the gradual nature of the learning process for children. The meaning that is attached to early childhood education may vary slightly from one country to the other but the underlying principles remain the same.

In some countries, this level encompasses the education a child gets before attending nursery school. In others like the US, it includes the post-nursery and primary level of education. In many countries, this type of education has been made compulsory although there are some countries that recognize home educational institutions.

In most cases, one teacher is responsible for teaching the children. This is meant to enable the teacher identify the needs of each child as well as cultivate a close relationship with the children. It is essential for the elementary teacher to identify the specific needs of each child such as difficulty in socializing or paying attention. There is also a need for a degree in early childhood education to be supplemented with child psychology courses in order to enable the teacher to have the required cognitive skills.

You have to realize that it takes more than just acquisition of knowledge in order to be an early childhood education teacher. You have to possess the required skills of a teacher which will enable you handle the formative approaches required of an elementary school teacher. Success in doing this enables you enjoy one of the most rewarding careers. The quality of education that a child gets during early years of development determines how the child will handle academic matters later on in life. The behaviors cultivated also translate into either desirable or undesirable work habits.

One must be aware that the impact their education will have on the children continues to affect them all their lives. This is therefore an opportunity for these teachers to provide a positive impact on the lives of the thousands of children that pass through their hands in the course of their lives.

The nature of education for young children is not usually purely academic in nature as it is the case for adults. Early education is generally taken to last from birth to the age of eight years. At this age, education is all-round and covers the physical, cognitive, social and emotional education. Although this education

can occur through the guidance of a parent or a primary caretaker, it is conventionally taken to mean that kind of education which is provided by another person who has no close family or guidance-related ties with the child.

Both research and informal observations hint at the integral position that parents must assume in shaping the course of the behavior of a child. They therefore form a core part of a child’s cognitive development and by extension, their early childhood education. Early childhood may take many forms which are guided by the theoretical convictions of the parents or even the educator. This explains some terms such as ‘early care’ and ‘early education’ are used to refer to the same concept.
